Woke up this morning wrestling with the problems of small - TopicsExpress

Woke up this morning wrestling with the problems of small municipal governments. How do we grow? How do we meet our basic needs? Where does or should the money come from? The ANSWER CANNOT be to add 5, 10, 15 or 20 more cents taxes on each $100 of property taxes for our residents. Mount Rainier has about 900 homes. Most of us living here are on FIXED incomes that will more than likely go down, or remain the same for the duration of our lives. Yet we have a few, who have great incomes that are constantly going up, and can afford any and all increases, and feel that more taxes is GOOD GOVERNMENT because it will accomplish their objectives! I think that our taxes are HIGH enough. Just as families are having to cut back, municipal government will also have to cut back OR find new revenue sources. Businesses in Mount Rainier, will not grow or develop by pricing out those who have kept Mount Rainier alive over the years. Businesses must find a way to raise money for their development and growth, and not expect single family residents to be their bailout or growth capital. Just saying!
