Woke up to find a surprise in my basement studio this morning. - TopicsExpress

Woke up to find a surprise in my basement studio this morning. Apparently, the line that delivers water to the icemaker in our kitchen refrigerator ruptured (if yours is plastic, get it changed to copper NOW!) and spent the wee hours of the morning filling the ceiling of the basement below with water. The ceiling eventually collapsed, bathing a large number of my instruments in dirty water and ruined ceiling panels (hope those things dont have asbestos in them!). I think I can save pretty much everything since it didnt sit in the water for too long. Fortunately the two marimbas and the xylophone were relatively untouched and the baroque timpani were in another room. The vibes got it pretty bad, but at least the keyboard is waterproof. My red Fibes kit got it the worst, but its fiberglass so should be OK. A 1930s Leedy bass drum and one of my 1960s Ludwig cocktail drums are the only wood-shelled antiques that got soaked and Ive already taken them apart and dried them so they should be OK. Pretty much everything else is plastic and metal (except the ruined sheet music). Now I get to spend the rest of the day pumping water out of my basement. Hope your mornings better than mine!!
