Wolcottville,IN is a small town nice enough for many of its residents to hang around all their life. Most of my earliest memories are of being one of the 7 little ones who trailed behind mom as she made her way through a busy downtown area on any given Saturday morning back in the early 70s. Having doctors & dentists offices, hair salons..hardware stores, banks, candy shops, appliance, furniture & grocery stores filling the business district left little reason to venture off to bigger towns. You might think this is funny to hear today but honestly, I can remember being one of a house full of very excited kids anticipating the occasional 15 mile journey that we would make to get to the big city of Kendallville. With huge stores, movie theatre, drive thru restaurants & popcorn stands.. What a rare treat that was for us back then. It was aggravation for mom as the hometown mom & pop shops slowly folded & closed their doors in her hometown. Mom would say, This is rediculous, I remember a time we didnt leave Wolcottville for anything! Taking a walk down memory lane today & realizing that very few businesses survived the wake of Walmart superstores, leaving nearly every building empty in downtown Wolcottville. Having my own home to care for & a busy work schedule as well I can now appreciate & fully understand moms frustrations back then. It would be awesome if I didnt have to spend so much time (time that I dont really have a lot of these days) traveling to get what I need just to survive. The convenience of getting to the grocery store in a few short minutes no longer exists. A local service provider would be a luxury & really?... A quick trip to town in the middle of a home improvement project to grab one little item is no longer an option?.. Mom was right..This is totally ridiculous!! What if simplicity could be brought back to our town. With the objective of finding a few more interested parties this my introduction to an idea that offers opportunity for economical growth in our community & for other potential business owners.. Please share this update with anyone who may have ideas or interest in becoming part of a business plan to bring small (or medium/large) businesses together to bring convenience back to the hometown residence of Wolcottville or for businesses that targets the demands of the thousands of seasonal residence at the many lakes that surround us. Do you have a good business idea that could thrive if you had affordable rent.. in a nice atmosphere.. potentially busy high traffic area.. Offering lots of exposure & promotions for any type of existing or new business. A one stop service/shopping/ gathering facility in a town that has already proven itself to thrive.
