Wollondilly Council Media Release Important Information for Spa Owners Many people are now aware of new State Government changes that require all swimming pools in NSW to be registered on a state Swimming Pool register. However some property owners may not realise that spa pools also have to be registered. All spa pool owners should be aware that as from: • 29 October 2013, it is an offence for a spa pool or swimming pool owner not to have their property registered on the State Government Swimming Pool register, • From April 29, 2014, a property owner who has a spa pool or swimming pool on their property will require a Compliance Certificate for their spa or pool prior to the sale or lease of their property. • All properties with spas will be inspected as per Council’s swimming pool inspection program. “This is an important reminder to residents that spas are included in the State Government Pool register. Spas are also a safety concern and can pose the same risks as a back yard swimming pool. I encourage residents to register their spa immediately,” says Mayor, Cr Benn Banasik. These changes do not relate to spa baths that are located within dwelling bathrooms. It should be noted that spa pools are required to have a suitable child-safe barrier that complies with Australian Standard 1926.1 and resuscitation charts just like swimming pools. However exemptions from safety barriers exist if a lockable lid is installed on the spa.
