Wolves’ transfer-listed players today took a step closer to the exit door after boss Kenny Jackett excluded them from his squad list. Head coach Jackett has refused to hand shirt numbers to Roger Johnson, Stephen Ward, Karl Henry and Jamie O’Hara. Numbers 14, 11, eight and 24 will now go to other players, or be left for new signings. Jackett’s decision means the quartet’s exile from the senior squad continues virtually since they reported back for the start of pre-season. They have been training with the under-21s for all but the first two days, while they missed out on the five-day tour of Scotland and haven’t been included in any of the squads for the three friendlies so far. Jackett said: “At present, the transfer-listed players have not been given a squad number. “We have got another week before we need to submit it. We have formulated what’s going to happen. We have left a gap or two, which we hope we can possibly fill. “But, at present, the four lads have not been set aside squad numbers.” Asked if the decision was pushing the four closer to the exit door, Jackett said: “I don’t think they can be any closer, given where they are. “They are not in my plans for the season so, right now, they are not going to be given squad numbers.” But Jackett is in no hurry for the quartet to leave, with no serious interest in them. He said: “I’m not particularly worried. My focus is on the team, the group, and the players that are playing. There are no developments. “I don’t think the club will necessarily be in a rush if the deal isn’t right.” And Jackett insisted they haven’t been disruptive. He said: “They have been fine in training and have been on time and putting their work in. All the coaches have had good things to say about their attitudes.” Asked if they would be allowed to leave on free transfers, Jackett said: “We will assess it as we go along and every situation and every deal is different. “It’s too simplistic to just put a transfer fee on it these days, because there is length of contract and amount of wages to consider.” Jackett believes a compromise will be needed for everyone to get their way. He said: “Maybe that’s the case but, from the club’s point of view, we will be doing what we think is the right thing for the club."
