Woman loses cash, jewellery to tricksters MIRI: A 60-something woman was conned yesterday of cash and gold necklace by three strangers who told her they could help her get aid to repair her house in Piasau Jaya. Her house was partially destroyed by a fire a few years ago. The 9am incident unfolded when the woman was accosted by a stranger in front of a shop in China Street. The stranger, who is a woman in her 40s, offered to help her apply for funds to repair her house. “I fell for what she told me. She then accompanied me to a silver Perodua Kancil. Inside the car was a man and a woman,” related the victim to reporters at the Miri Central Police Station. After she got in the car, all four headed towards Jalan Kampung Wireless and later stopped in front of a building, which they claimed was where they could help the victim apply for funds. One of the conmen got out and walked the victim towards the building. However, before the victim got out of the car, she was told to leave her handbag and gold necklace, which is worth about RM6000, inside the car. Upon reaching the second floor of the building, the conman asked the victim to wait for him outside an office. He then went inside the office alone. The victim did as instructed, and only realised she had been conned after waiting for a few hours. She immediately called up her son, and they drove to Miri Central Police Station to lodge a report.
