Woman seeks ethics inquiry into officials October 25, 2014 By NICO SALVATORI (nsalvatori@sungazette), Williamsport Sun-Gazette The chairwoman of a local political action committee is pursuing an ethics investigation into alleged activity by Lycoming County commissioners. Janet Nash, of Cogan Station, claims that county commissioners publicly condemned her in response to a political campaign mailer sent to county residents in recent weeks by her group, People for Ethics and Morality in Government. In a letter to the state Ethics Commission, Nash referenced a press conference that county commissioners held to address the mailer. During the conference, Commissioner Tony Mussare said the mailer caused confusion among some county residents who considered it a legitimate invoice from the county. The plain white mailer was marked BILL ENCLOSED and inside stated that each county resident owed thousands of dollars due to excessive borrowing attributed to Jeff Wheeland in his capacity as a county commissioner. Wheeland is the political opponent of state Rep. Rick Mirabito, D-Williamsport, who acknowledged a past connection to the political committee. At the bottom of the mailer it read, Paid Advertisement by People for Ethics & Morality in Government. Wheelands campaign recently filed a mail fraud complaint with the U.S. Postal Service against the political committee. Read more of this story in todays Sun-Gazette.
