Wome sings Khune’s praises Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Dove Wome has sung the praises of Itumeleng Khune, saying the goalkeeper is key to Kaizer Chiefs’ attacking play. The Togolese international moved to Chloorkop for a taste of the big time at the start of the season, and has been vital to the Brazilians’ unbeaten start to the season. Asked to sum up the play of their main title rivals, Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, Wome described Amakhosi as a counter-attacking team, with Khune at the helm, while the Buccaneers rely on width. “They have counter-attacking-specialist in their goalkeeper [Khune],” the former Free State Stars man tells KickOff. “When Khune makes a save, the first thing he does is to set the counter- attack in motion with his accurate distribution and passing. He is definitely Kaizer Chiefs’ first line of attack. “Khune sets the pace for most of Chiefs attacks – the rest of the outfield players come out the blocks very quick because of Khune. They don’t have slow build-ups … he makes the team look like they have 12 attacking players on the field. “With Orlando Pirates it’s all about getting wide players into one-on-one situations. In that way they eliminate the fullbacks before playing passes or crosses to strikers. “But Kaizer Chiefs will hit on a counter when you least expect it and this season I expect them to be serious League contenders.” Wome will come up against Khune and his counter-attacking way when the two sides meet in the League at Loftus on November 23 #xax
