Women Behind the Scenes: Joan Harrison was hired by Alfred - TopicsExpress

Women Behind the Scenes: Joan Harrison was hired by Alfred Hitchcock in 1933 as his secretary. She quickly began to move up the ladder, first reading scripts and novels, and then moving on to writing scenarios and making contributions to screenplays. In I939, she went with Hitchcock to Hollywood as his assistant and as one of his writers. Harrison received writing credits on Rebecca, Foreign Correspondent, Saboteur, and Suspicion. After leaving the employ of Hitchcock, she quickly became frustrated by Hollywood. Her scripts were being purchased, but never ended up getting produced. She then decided to focus on another area of the business, and took a job as a producer at Universal making feature films, and was one of the only female producers during the late 1940s.
