Women are seen as an anomaly in video game culture, even though - TopicsExpress

Women are seen as an anomaly in video game culture, even though they’ve comprised 47% of the gamer population since 2012. Our mistake is in assuming that the portrayal of women in these video games somehow corresponds to reality, in any way. And it doesn’t. The women you meet in MMORPGs aren’t going to wear skimpy non-functional armour (unless you go to Comic-Con). They also don’t need you to save them. And yet there’s always shock and awe when a woman gamer racks up more kills than their male counterpart. While their respawn counter ticks down after having suffered a pistol-whipping to the back of their skull, the patronization still continues: Well you’re pretty good, I guess. For a girl.
