Women have long been at the forefront in revolutionary movements. Womens images have been used repeatedly, whether they are framed as the peaceful mothers, part of the land, and recorders of history; or whether militarised women are framed as part of the new era, bringing in the change and revolution. The reality for militarised women is often very different to these images presented of them. Their subjective lived experiences as revolutionaries are often more complex than the paradigms painted.
