Women in Islam Rights of women in Islam during the times of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH*) Right to a dowry from the potential husband. Right to choose her own marriage partner. Right to work outside the home. Right to a divorce. Right to reject any suitor. Right to ask for protection from a man. Right to an education. Right to own property. Right to own a business. Right to get married again if she is a widow or divorcee. Right to keep any money she earns and spend it as she likes. Right to not have to contribute to the household income Right to an inheritance. Right to vote. Right to pray in a mosque. Right to participate in wars. The right to express their opinion and be heard. The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice. Right of taking custody of their children after divorce. Right in jihad The right of the Shura Council ( or in other words to become a political figure) You must also keep in mind, that before Islam many women were used as concubines and handed out as gifts to other men against their will. They had no choice when it came to marriage and it was normal for a man to marry a widow without her consent. Women had no voice when it came to politics, they didn’t participate in wars, and infant females were buried alive. Women were not allowed to divorce and it was often seen as a joke for a women to work, yet there were few women that used to work such as Khadija the prophets (pbuh) first wife. Nevertheless it was very uncommon for a women to be the provider. The fact that many “muslim" countries oppressed muslim women, results to the belief that Islam, The prophet, and the Quran surround the same notion. Yet, it’s Islam that freed women during the prophet’s era. Muslim women were able to vote long before westerners. Islam freed women, yet governments choose and pick and misinterpret the Quran to control the population. Despite the fact that they state they’re a muslim country they’re going against the teachings of the Prophet muhammad and the Quran by not giving the women the rights Islam provided them. When you look at Islam, do some research before you judge. There are bad people from every country and every religion, but that doesn’t mean that specific country/religion is bad. Rant over
