Womens Rugby Nationally Ranked The National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) released their national rankings this morning, ranking SBU Women’s Rugby as fifth in the nation amongst small colleges fielding teams. SBU is one of 73 teams who compete in this division. Head Coach Dr. Tracy Schrems was named Coach of the Year for Most Improved Squad, an honor bestowed on the NSCRO coach who most successfully turns a program around in the space of a year. Coach Schrems, along with Forwards Coach Laura Calamia, Backs Coach Luis Carpio, and Strength and Conditioning Coach John Hines coached the Bonnies to a 7-1 season in the newly formed Upstate New York Collegiate Rugby Conference, after suffering an 0-7 Fall 2013 season. The only loss the Women had in the Fall 2014 season was against Sacred Heart University, the Connecticut State Champions at the NSCRO Region 1 Tournament. The Women were 6-0 in regular season play. Congratulations to our Women Ruggers, their coaches, and Coach Schrems for an awesome season. Go Bonnies!
