Women’s Surf Challenge Cape Town & Durban Sunday 10 November 2013 Women’s Surf Challenge to take place in Cape Town & Durban on Sunday South Africa’s top female surfers will take centre stage this Sunday when they compete in the annual Women’s Surf Challenge supported by Sport and Recreation South Africa.. Simultaneous events in Cape Town and Durban have attracted most of the country’s female surf stars who are vying for prize-money and points in the SSA Pro Surf Tour ranked events. Both events feature Open Women, Under 20 and U16 Division competitors and offer SSA Pro Surf Tour points as well as R8000 in prize-money across the divisions. Heading up the strong Open field in the Cape Town contest areTanika Tanika Hoffman (Hout Bay) and Faye Zoetmulder (Port Elizabeth), who were members of the South African team that won the ISA World Surfing Games in Panama in May. SSA PST leader Tasha Mentasti (Cape Town), Tarryn Chudleigh( Kommetjie), Danielle Johnson ( Muizenberg), Holly Armstrong (Scarborough) twins Penny Stemmet and Tammy Robarts (both Strand), Natasha Bernstein ( Constantia), Krystal Tavenor ( Muizenberg), Lisa Mace ( Kommetjie) and Nikita Kekana (Kalk Bay) make up the rest of the field. Anoush Zakarian (Melkbosstrand),Bernstein, Ruth Armstrong (Scarborough), and Nikita Kekana are the pick of the Under 20 group while Zakarian, Armstrong, Naledi Kekana (Kalk Bay) and Cara Stubbs (Marina Da Gama) are the form girls in the Under 16 division. The 2013 Durban winner in the Open Division is likely to be come from the form trio of top international surfer Sarah Baum (Athlone Park) former World Masters Champion Heather Clark (Port Shepstone) or Heidi Palmboom (Bluff) while Baum, Palmboom, Teal Hogg (Umhlanga), Chanelle Botha ( Warner Beach) look the pick in the Under 20 Division. The Under 16 division looks very competitive with Hogg, Botha, Sophie Ball (Salt Rock),Jade Mets (Umhlanga),Kelly Simkiss and Cana Foster (both Umdloti) all in the mix. The Women’s Day Surf Challenge is supported by a grant from Sport & Recreation SA. Surfing South Africa is the governing body for the sport and is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA). ENDS
