Wonder what they call it ,when a person has been wrongly claimed as an ancestor for decades that it becomes accepted ,it starts out insidiously as a wrong ancestor ,perhaps wrongly researched by some long ago wanna be genealogist .Who perhaps writes a book on the family ,this wrong data perpetuates and grows like kudzu now it appears in some ancestry data bases like early marriages as a fact ,when in fact its not ,now even more people think its a fact because its in a data base .I think they should be called ancestors by default ,those who are not related but that have been reported as a relative .After this long its virtually impossible to place the right ancestor in a tree or get others to hear you .Sometimes it will show the ancestor married both the long believed spouse and the actual spouse ,some folks do this with names one person may hav e a Willaim, one a Thomas ,darned if some triees do not start calling him William Thomas .
