Wonder what you should do in the case of an emergency? Dont wait - TopicsExpress

Wonder what you should do in the case of an emergency? Dont wait until you have a problem, ask your vet NOW about their emergency policy. Not all veterinary hospitals cover emergencies 24 / 7. With more 24 hour emergency hospitals readily available, more general practitioners are referring all their after hour calls to those specialty centers. Others refer to these centers only when they cannot be available or middle of the night calls. Does your vet use an answering service, so they can be easily reached after hours? Or do they forward calls to their home or cell number, meaning their availability maybe a little hit or miss? If you cant get hold of your vet, what should you do? Other area veterinary hospitals may only cover emergencies for their clients & not see patients from other hospitals after hours. Its best to get all this information while your pets are happy & healthy. Dont wait until you are in an emergency situation & panicking. And please, no matter your vets policy, be understanding. Veterinarians are the only medical professionals still making themselves available to patients after hours on a regular basis. If you or your child is sick after hours, you go to an urgent care facility or the ER. Chances are, you are not going to be able to call up your doctor in the middle of the night or on a holiday.
