Wonderful Art Supper this evening in Lympstone. Bolstered by a most delicious Tuscany Stew, we were guided through the life and works of Edward Hopper, one of my favourite artists. His extraordinary use of light and colour makes his paintings memorable and striking. My personal take on Hopper, who I regard as a misunderstood genius, is that the little boy inside him very much guided his thoughts and paintings of a dark hostile world with which he would seek isolation. You get the feeling that many of his paintings are seeing the world as a child would. The buildings and people seem to be almost like dolls houses and toy figures. Mysterious and captivating - Hoppers paintings are a joy to behold.
