Wonderful Spark! Love David I have been on this page for over a year now and have to save it has inspired me to do many sparks. I wanted to help the homeless but for so long I have had the opinion that if they wanted to get off the streets they could. Well one day my thought process changed when I met Mike. Mike had been homeless for many years and had a mental illness. I was at a small cafe and when I finished my meal and went to leave I noticed that I had a flat tire. I was in a dress and pumps. I was getting into my trunk to find my spare when Mike walked up and introduced himself. He said he was not good at much except changing tires. I asked him a few questions and I know I was a little worried about him helping me. He told me that he was homeless but not helpless. He told me he was sorry about how he looked and he said he was sure he did not swell the best. I gave in and Mike started to change the tire. He was done so fast and he did it with a smile. He check and rechecked everything to make sure it was done right. When he finished I tried to give him 25 dollars but he refused. He asked be to not rob him of the blessing of giving. I started to cry and he asked me why. I told him that I though all homeless people were lazy and no good. He said to me that it was OK and that I really needed to get on my way home because it was suppose to storm. I told him thank you and told him I hoped to see him again. I left for home and called my husband and told him what had happened and he told me to turn around and stop Mike because he wanted to meet him. I turned around and found Mike and told him that my husband was on the way and he wanted to thank him for helping me. My husband was not far and pulled in within 10 minutes. I had a nice talk with Mike while waiting on my husband. My husband came of to where we were sitting and told Mike thank you for helping me. He asked him where he was staying tonight. Mike said he was going to be on the streets because the shelters were full and if they werent full he would not stay there anyway. He told us that they can be very violent and full of bed bugs. My husband said we want to get you a room for a few days. Mike said no and I told him not to rob us of the joy of giving. We took mike to a hotel that rented rooms by the week. It was a nice little place. We went to Wal Mart and got him food and some new cloths. My husband found a water proof bag so he could keep his stuff dry. We got him some hygiene products. When we came back and gave him all the stuff he began to cry . He thanked us a million times and we told him good by. Life got busy and I did not make it back to see Mike and my heart felt a bit sad. I would think about him quit often. I always pray he found a job and he is having a great life. Please do not make the mistake I made for many years and think that the homeless are lazy and no good because I almost missed one of the greatest blessings I have ever received.
