Wonderful interview with Reza Aslan - he really shines a light on the bigotry of people who generalise and insist on calling out Muslim Countries for things like female circumcision, stoning, female oppression, etc. He says that 80/90% of genital mutilation comes from Christian Countries. That its a country problem not a religion problem. Turkey, a muslim country has had 7 female heads of states - so way more than the UK or USA. Indonesia has a fantastic record of gender equality - way more than here in the West. So to say Islam promotes violence is the same as saying Buddhism promotes violence because there is a hardline Buddhist group in Sri Lanka that have murdered a good few hundred people, but we would never think of blaming Buddhism. Saudi Arabia have been beheading people more than Syria but get no media time because it is not in our countries interest.
