Wondering how to put your natural Christmas tree to good use? The state’s Department of Fish and Wildlife is accepting trees free of lights, tinsel and decorations at several nearby locations. The trees will be used to provide more cover for fish — and better opportunities for anglers, according to a news release. Drop-off locations closest to Anderson County include: Forks of Elkhorn Hatchery 3785 Georgetown Road, Frankfort KDFWR Headquarters #1 Sportsmans Lane, Frankfort Guist Creek Lake Marina 11990 Boat Dock Road, Shelbyville Trees will be accepted through Jan. 15. Fisheries personnel collect the donated trees and bundle them to create fish attractors that will be submerged in lakes across the state. These brush reefs provide new cover for all fish and nursery habitat for young fish. They also attract baitfish and algae, providing food for young fish and other aquatic organisms.
