Woodbridge Town were denied a deserved point in the dying seconds when Substitute Jonathan Fryatt was brought down by a Newmarket defender but referee Stephen Moore and his assistant failed to give what looked to be a clear cut penalty. Sam Meads 20 yard shot went just over after 2 minutes. The same player was upended in the penalty area after 19 minutes but the first of 3 penalty appeals was turned down and the player booked. Jack Higgs effort tested Woodbridge keeper Jack Spurling after 28 minutes. Lee Clifts overhead kick after 31 minutes just failed to hit the target. Scott Patersons header went just over for the visitors after 38 minutes. Craig Stuart cleared off the line after 40 minutes for the Woodpeckers. Tom Trevivians shot was on target after 50 minutes. Sam Meads free kick after 52 minutes hit the post with Newmarket keeper George Lawton beaten. James Hubbard looked to be upended in the penalty area after 74 minutes but Woodbridge appeals for a penalty were again turned down. Hubbards header went just over a minute later and Jack Newmans shot went just over after 76 minutes. Newmarket took the lead after 82 minutes when Ross Patersons cross found Clift who made no mistake from close range. A third penalty appeal was turned down at the end but manager Lee Elliston will be pleased with his teams efforts.
