Woohoo - so 30m of us can expect tax cuts courtesy of Dave and Co - what a very generous gesture. Oh, hang on. Ive done a bit of Evan Davis style drilling down and Honest Dave has been a little disingenuous again (hardly surprising from the man who keeps repeating that hes reducing the debt when it continues to rise - its the deficit thats reduced you numbskull, not the debt - and that has toss all to do with the effects of Government policy). So anyways, this generous tax cut - first and foremost - its an ELEVEN YEAR PLAN. Thats right - its dependent not only on a Tory Government being voted in next year, but also in the next election. The size of this generous tax cut? Well, it averages out at about £160 per person - and thats before the effects of any reductions in in-work benefits (and they are coming) are accounted for. Put it this way. If you were offered an 11 year fixed rate bank account paying a rate grossly below inflation, would you find that attractive - especially when the poorest and most vulnerable in society are expected to pay for it courtesy of deeper and deeper spending cuts in welfare and essential services? Meanwhile the biggest and most immediate tax cuts? Yep, for the benefit of the super rich. Ah, the modern, caring sharing face of the Tories, eh? All in this together? Take a look at this from 10:17 to 10:54 for the answer (Id recommend stopping at that point to avoid some truly puke inducing flirting!)
