Wooten youth will take on the roles of lawyers, judges, jurors and - TopicsExpress

Wooten youth will take on the roles of lawyers, judges, jurors and more in a mock trial tomorrow, Friday, 4-6pm, for our monthly College Day. Members of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles will be our mentors for the day, leading Wooten youth in a hands-on demonstration of our criminal justice system. Its a timely event as the mock trial, People v. Smith, is about a young girl who allegedly borrowed a gun from a relative to do harm to another girl. This allegedly happened on Monday in Chicago when a 14-year-old girl killed her former friend over a dispute on Facebook. Our heart goes out to everyone involved. Parents, be sure to let the kids stay till 6pm tomorrow, if possible, so theyll get the full effect of this important college and career readiness activity. Thank you to Niki Jones of BWL for coordinating the visit and to all the legal professionals coming to help introduce our kids to their careers.
