Wopila to the Si Tanka Wokiksuye na Omaka Tokatakiya Riders for their prayers and sacrifice, and wopila to the horses that carried them. On this day (29TH) in 1890, over 300 men, women and children were massacred by the 7th Cavalry in a place called Wounded Knee. We had a great grandmother who survived this event, and a great grandfather who was the attending physician that awful morning, Dr. Charles Eastman (Ohiyesa). He said that as the wounded and dying women and children were being carried into a church, he noticed a sign over the door that read,Peace on Earth, Good Will Towards Men. My relatives, we have a choice. We can remain stuck in our historical trauma, or we can help the seventh generation to mend our sacred hoop, make the tree of life live again, and help our nation find its center. The choice is ours.
