Word for Today. Title: Your Response. Text: Proverbs 15:1. A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. People are always so angry today. Angry at their lives, their families, their colleagues and most unfortunately themselves. This anger is often expressed in their speech. Even respected believers are prone to lash out harsh words on others constantly. There are points where harshness may be required, but when it becomes a habit then you know you have a problem. Gentleness, on the other hand, is a fruit of the Spirit. It is already in you, but it is up to you to allow the fruit to manifest in your life. We must decide to give gentle answers or react gently and meekly to people instead of always being harsh. James 3:17 says wisdom that is from above is gentle and willing to yield. When we always react harshly to people and circumstances that dont go our way, its a sign of spiritual foolishness and insecurity in our lives. Being harsh gives a false sense of control, influence and authority which will one day come crashing down on the individual. It is also a sign of pride as we feel we are big enough to lash out at anyone despite the persons feelings. It should be called what it is, A sin. A Christian mustnt have the habit of being harsh if he or she believes that Christ dwells in him or her. Christianity is being like Christ and Matthew 11:29 and 2 Corinthians 10:1 let us know that Christ manifests a meek and gentle attitude. The pharisees always tried to give Jesus problems, but instead of being offended and react harshly to it, He simply gave them soft and gentle answers that ended their arguments. When you react harshly to something, your mood clouds your cognitive reasoning and you are more likely to say or do something youll later on regret, but when you are gentle you allow the Holy Spirit to flow and give you the right words to say to end any argument you may have with a friend, a sibling or a spouse. Are you always harsh especially to the people you care about the most? Ask God to heal you, repent of it and youll be delivered. Know this; if you wont allow someone to stab the people you care about with a knife, then dont be harsh on them either because both of them have the same effect eventually. Shalom!
