Word of the day is Patience. Patience is the companion of wisdom. The wisdom lies in our ability to remain poised under pressure. Therefore being patience supplements SELF-CONTROL. Napoleon Hill said, "Patience, Persistence and Perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success." Patience is purposeful perseverance. It is calm composure operating at capacity. It is the ability to be serene and to not act according to adverse circumstances. Patience is a positive posture! It says that regardless of circumstances, I will endure. I will not OVER-REACT when wronged. I will bide my time and remain UPRIGHT. Patience is the voice of Relentless Resolve. It says I will not buckle under the weight of trails. I will not cave in. I will not be defeated. I will not succumb under pressure. I will not surrender to defeat. Patience puts things in the proper perspective. Joseph Addison said, "Our real business often appear to us in the shape of pains, losses and disappointments; but let us have patience and we soon shall see them in their proper figures." When we are too close to a situation, it is easy to lose sight of the BIGGER picture. Compare this to driving in fog at dusk...You sit so close to the window to see what ahead, that you end up steaming the window with your own breath. Patience reveals that, in time, everything is made clear. Whether we have setbacks, slipups or slowdowns, one thing is common to each of them...THEY ARE TEMPORARY! So what are the benefits of practicing patience? 1. Alleviate Anger - Being patient diffuses being smothered, swamped and submerged by stress. 2. Clearer choices - Taking time to think things through beforehand and act as if it is hindsight. 3. Success (Mentally and Spiritually) - Personal growth in areas of cultivating compassion, enlarging empathy and utilizing understanding. Ponder this: In times when you are upset, overwhelmed and angry, ask yourself this question: In a hundred years from now what will it matter? If that does not calm you ask yourself a more personal question: Is this behavior moving me closer to or further from my purpose?
