Word to the wise about legal highs Today I was in a meeting with the police, Scunthorpe fire service. Dip, nps, probation at shelford house. The aim of this meeting was to test legal highs seized by the police off the streets of Scunthorpe to see what chemicals they actually contained. The results are here for you to look over. All tests were completed in a sterile environment with cross contamination measures in place. The equipment used was an infrared mass spectrometer used to test unknown compounds by the fire service. Samples were also gathered from a local legal highs outlet and these were subject to testing too. Testing of various green matter substances showed presence of cellulose and protein compounds but the system was unable to recognise there active chemicals due to not being programmed to recognise these substances. Test 1. Magic crystals An anhydrous compound with high traces of caffeine and ethyl PARA AMINO BENZOATE ( benzocaine) a field nerve block and anaesthetic used in minor dentistry and operations. Test 2. Seized white crystals in baggy. Quite surprised this came back as pure cane sugar no other chemicals shown present in detection quantities. Test 3. Seized white powder with few crystals in baggy This contained cocaine hydrochloride in high concentration, caffeine, milk powder or baby milk and fat burner.as` Test 4 Seized white crystals in baggy This came back as sodium hydrogen glutamate a Chinese food additive. Test 5 Seized Brown crystals in baggy. This came back as methyleene dioxy propanal amphetamine (mdpa) or monkey dust. Test 6. Seized off white crystals in baggy. This contained methcathinone, cyclopentamine (a nasal decongestant) and l-lycine Test 7 Seized white powder few lumps and fluffy in presence in baggy. The results were cocaine hydrochloride (60-70% pure) and ethyl para amino benzoate (benzocaine) a field nerve block and anaesthetic also used as a cutting or bulking agent. Test 8 Seized crystaline powder In baggy This tested as pure (cpa) cyclopentamine a nasal decongestant. Test 9 Seized decomposed Orange paste in baggy. This tested as methyleene dioxy propanal amphetamine (mdpa) or monkey dust All chemicals tested were done in the presence of a police officer and the samples were returned or forfitted for destuction. The information provided here is done so to be of a informal basis to create awareness of the dangers of using legal highs.
