This is a baby girl rescued by our Mangyan pastor from being killed by her own mother. In the Mangyan tribes, when a baby born is born facing west he/she she is believed to bring curse to the whole village. The whole village rally that the baby must die or death will come to the village. Killing the baby will appease the spirits. Because of this, the baby must be killed. There are several ways of doing this but the usual way is to dig a hole, strangle the baby with a stick (yantok) and put the baby in the hole and cover the baby with dirt. The gospel reached many villages with the gospel. God transformed these villages. They are no longer afraid of the spirits because the Spirit of the living God is more powerful. Now, the Christian villages adopt and rescue these babies. Now the villages that are not yet Christians, instead of killing the babies bring them to the Christian communities to be adopted. When this baby girl (now named Doreen) was brought to Daniya (the wife of Pastor Gun) the umbilical cord was still intact. Daniya cut the cord and took the baby because the mother wants to kill her.
