Words cannot express how grieved and shocked the entire music fraternity was when the news of the demise of a legendary Gambia musician was announced. It was another sad day for many people especially for music enthusiasts and those who followed the life of this stunning mbalax icon. It is against this backdrop that Club Senegambia based in Sweden is organising a grand tribute concert in honor of the fallen hero (Mawdo Sey) on the 28th September in Sweden. It will feature other top rated artistes in Sweden and Brussels. Mawdo Sey was a Gambian musician who gained worldwide fame through his work with Ifangbondi Band of The Gambia. The Sweden based Gambian musician Mawdo Sey, aka Mao, aged 58 years, passed away in Sweden and was finally laid to rest on Saturday 27th April, at the Serekunda Cemetery. The funeral ceremony was graced by grieving family members, friends and members of the music fraternity in The Gambia. A Skillful Gambian musician, who settled in Sweden before his demise, was a backing vocalist for the famous Ifang Bondi Band, under the leadership of the great musician Paps Touray and later to other bands in The Gambia. Mao started his career as a singer of Islamic religious songs in Senegal, where he spent his childhood. He later switched into modern music and had composed many songs both in The Gambia and Europe. He appeared on the Senegalese TV with the Iconic presenter Marget Wadda in ‘Tele Variety’ program to release his album in Senegal.
