A synonym of the word is ‘puppet’. A performer in a show who does and says foolish things that other performers make fun of is also referred to as stooge. Those who have a taste for the American theater would know that three stooges was a comedy act of early to mid 20th century. Their hallmark was physical farce and slapstick. Slapstick is a form of humor involving exaggerated physical activity which exceeds the boundaries of common sense.
