[The sentence given above has been taken from todays newspaper (dated: Jan 19, 2014)]. Collegium refers to a group in which each member has approximately equal power and authority. The word is also used to refer to a society of amateur musicians, especially one attached to a German or US university. It can be seen that in the latter definition too, the first is implied; as one can infer that the amateur musicians would be (more or less) equal in skill and authority within the group.
