Words from the Past President, THANK YOU! First I have to admit that I completely forgot the meeting on last month. There has been a lot going on. When I was certain that we had a new president I accepted a position with Civitan International not expecting to be graced with the duty of president for the year. I was not ready, lol. But, The thing that I love most about the Wyandotte County Club is that we come together, make a decision to do something and then we do it. When we started this club the big concern was We dont have time for meetings, we want to help the community during the year and be with our families, work and live.... I promised that we could do that without guilt and obligation and that our meetings were the least important element of what we do. What we actually DO is the important part. I think that I have kept that promise. Well, I am now the past president and I will still be here to help in anyway that I can and I am hoping that some of you will feel the call to community leadership and step up to begin preparing to take the lead and guide this club in service. Ron will do a wonderful job this upcoming year. In January we started planning what to do for the year. We always have very limited funds but make do with what we have. Pretty much all we ask is that everyone stay paid up on their dues and help out where they can. Our club does need I hadnt planned on being President so it was kind of a surprise to me but life has twists and turns for us all. Ron and I had already begun the work on creating The Reola Grant Center and planned to spend my year as PAST President working on that, I never dreamed that the two would become one. To feed, clothe and assist with the special needs in this community in anyway possible has always been our goal and with your efforts, Civitan has been a great vehicle to help make that happen. We voted to focus for the year on the Golf Tournament, Toys for Tots and The Pantry/Free Thrift to include our previous efforts of the Holiday Family, Homeless/Senior Runs and School supplies The homeless are still being fed, clothed as are the seniors and students getting an occasional hand up. We voted to suspend the homeless/senior runs until a better delivery method was found. We also voted to focus on accomplishing a greater impact with our Holiday Family gifting by supporting the free-thrift. This decision has had tremendous results. We feed and clothe over 2,500 people every month. The StoreHouse which is the set-hours pantry serves over a hundred people per month alone. The playground partnership fell apart and we watched my final attempt at the golf tournament die on the vine just before bloom...that was a real downer. But it worked out for the greater good. We had a few very specific donations come in to support the purchase of some equipment Eric @ Ussery Body Shop donated to help purchase shelving for the Thrift/Pantry and DeGoler chipped in on racks for the thrift...the loss was minimal, all 3 clubs took a small hit. The items that were purchased have been used in other projects and The Orchids will get good use of the glow in the dark items purchased at their Masquerade Ball on October 31st. The Center is doing wonderful...We wrote for a grant and got us fully loaded computers for the career center and printers. So we will get that all set up and let you know when it is available. Typically we shut down for the holidays and I try to communicate by email. Ron has asked me to hang in there until January when we finish up the events that we voted on for the season, so I am suggesting that we do that again this year and everyone please come to the events, pay your dues, watch your emails, send people to get help and register for the events. We always need new ideas so be thinking of some for next year and please encourage your friends and family to become members and leaders. If anyone would like to meet on Thursday evening...please call me-We will be at 8822 Parallel Parkway and we would like to see everyone at the following dates. December 9 and 10th Toys for Tots (check the flyer) Every 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the Month at The Center 8822 Parallel Parkway (check the flyer).
