Work on optical fibre extension to start within this fiscal - The much awaited project on extending optical fibre to the district level is likely to start within the current fiscal year. Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) is preparing to deploy the project under design, build and operate (DBO) model. Though the project was planned in 2009, it has not yet been implemented. NTA officials in a meeting of the Development Committee of the Legislature-Parliament, on Sunday, said that they were preparing an inventory on telecom infrastructure including optical fibre and based on it, the fibre connection will be extended avoiding duplication. It is estimated that around 60 districts have been connected with fibre link of Nepal Telecom and other private sector telecom firms and internet service providers. “We plan to complete inventory of infrastructure like optical fibre and tower within a week,” said Digambar Jha, chairman of NTA.
