Workers Forum at Freedom Park Today workers will gather for a forum in Freedom Park. The forum has been called by 18 unions and labor associations to coincide with International Women’s Day and is part of a campaign by those groups to demand a rise in the minimum wage to $160 and the release from detention of 21 people arrested during strikes in early January. Last week, as part of the campaign, unions called on workers not to work overtime and from 12-19 March they plan to hold a nationwide stay-at-home strike. This morning, at 9am, leaders of unions and associations including Ath Thun from the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers Democratic Union (CCAWDU) arrived at Freedom Park in order to lead a public forum. Security guards had a verbal conflict with people which led to people throwing bottles of water at each other while security guards tried to prevent them entering Freedom Park. During the public forum Ath Thun condemned the government for the ban on public gatherings and the crackdown by the authorities on workers gatherings. stream.licadho-cambodia.org/workers_forum_freedom_park/
