Working from diaries, letters and other Civil War-era materials, UofSC history students are reliving the past through Twitter by partnering with Historic Columbia to “live tweet” Sherman’s march to Columbia as part of the city-wide commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Burning of Columbia. History Professor Tom Brown had each student research one person with a connection to Columbia during early 1865, then create three tweets about the Burning of Columbia from that person’s diaries or memoirs.
