Working together to feed more kids! Our Daily Bread Fairfax VA and Food for Others received a grant from Fairfax County to expand our weekend food backpack programs for children who attend FCPS schools. Yesterday, 18 FCPS social workers, counselors and parent liaisons attended a meeting organized by ODBs Christina Garris, FFOs Nikki Clifford and Marshall Road Elementary School Vienna Virginias social worker Jean Wyman and PTA representative Kristen Wilson to learn more about the options to bring weekend backpacks to their schools. FFOs Power Pack Program receives donations of Power Packs from schools, churches and community groups and distributes to about 30 schools with kids in need. ODBs Food4Thought works with Marshall Road and Daniels Run ES to help their PTAs provide weekend food backpacks to kids in need in their own schools, and we are working to expand the number of schools who help their own kids using this model, or partner schools with other groups who will help their kids. There are about 47,000 FCPS children who qualify for free or discounted meals, so the need is so great!
