Workshop Series “Let’s Talk Multidisciplinarity” Come meet your peers, learn about working together, and start making a difference Why? – The UA seeks to systematically foster collaborative multidisciplinary efforts. This will enable us to innovate, grow, and meet the challenges of ‘Never Settle’. Context – The national buzz is that Collaborative Multidisciplinary initiatives are increasingly favored by agencies looking to solve BIG issues (including NIH, NSF etc.). Challenge – The UA has long been known as a hotbed of Multidisciplinarity. However we have few institutional mechanisms to formally facilitate and incentivize MDC, and to provide pilot funds to get them off the ground. Strategies –Various approaches to multidisciplinary initiatives will be discussed that involve information sharing, coaching and mentoring, adjusting P,T&E to account for Multidisciplinarity and incentives as mentioned above. Outcomes – A steady increase in extramurally funded or award-producing projects. Solutions will be in the form of increased institutional support, changes to P,T&E criteria, and a model for incentivization. When?
