World Coal News Thursday, 13 November 14 Coal Minister Wants India to Stop Coal Imports in Two or Three Years Indian government has asked Coal India, to raise its coal production to 1 billion tonnes by 2019 to provide for existing and future power plants. India the third largest coal manufacturer in the world after China and US and one of the worlds largest coal importer, may be able to stop thermal coal imports in the next three years if the coal India, the state owned and the world largest coal miner able to raise its coal production to 1 billion ton per year by 2019. According to Power and Coal Minister of India Piyush Goyal , Im very confident of achieving these targets and Indias current account deficit will not be burdened with the amount of money we lose for imports of coal According to media reports, Piyush Goyal added that perhaps in the next two or three years we should be able to stop imports of thermal coal. He even went a step further and said the country should make efforts to become an exporter of coal by depiction of a clear roadmap. If India able to manufacture 1 billion tons of coal by 2019 and stops coal imports, the worldwide corporal coal prices will reduce.
