World Council of Churches For peace in your country For the victims of violence everywhere For those struggling for peace and justice For churches in conflict situations For a world without war and violence Lead me from death to life, from falsehood to truth, Lead me from despair to hope, from fear to trust. Lead me from hate to love, from war to peace, Let peace fill our beings, our world and our universe. Amen. Thirty years ago, participants at the WCC 6th Assembly prayed this prayer during an all-night vigil for peace and justice. The WCC general secretary Philip Potter contributed a meditation on Matthew 17:1-8 which ended with the following words: The vision of the transfigured Christ is our transfiguration that we may with clarity and courage listen to him and be obedient to his call to the blessedness of hungering and thirsting for justice and of being peacemakers.
