World Food Programme – Palestine Country Office Vacancy Announcement Deadline for applications: Sunday 31 August 2014 Job Title: Geographical Information System (GIS) Assistant Duty station: Jerusalem UN Category: Special Service Agreement SB3/1 Duration : 2 Months initially Remuneration: Monthly Supervision received: The GIS assistant reports to a WFP Information Management Officer. Accountabilities: Within delegated authority, the GIS Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic and thus are not all-inclusive nor are all duties carried out by all GIS Assistants). Description of tasks: 1-GIS cartographic production 2-GIS database management 3-Spatial Analysis 4-Maintenance of web-based GIS using geoSDI 5-Support with mobile data collection project using GRASP 6-Other activities related to GIS/RS and IM GIS cartographic production -Development and production of maps and related mapping documents to effectively support WFP role in Palestine with particular emphasis for the Gaza emergency. -Create high quality maps and cartographic material using ArcGIS ArcMap and graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator for WFP publications -Prepare the thematic analytical maps that support country level operational functions of WFP GIS Database management -Ensure that the data develop and collected during the emergency is better managed and organized in a sustainable manner. Spatial Analysis -Provide GIS and spatial analysis to support food security analysis -Use GIS information in planning food security interventions through spatial multi-criteria analysis ; -Assist in linking of geoSDI, the CO GIS datasets and the GRASP data collection tool Data Collection -Assist in data collection training and data management Other responsibilities -Assist in training and handover to other GIS staff who may join the unit Expected Results: With initiative and judgement produces organised, accurate and well documented records with well analysed data and addresses unforeseen situations seeking advice and guidance from supervisor, as necessary. Qualifications: (These are the standard minimum qualifications established by WFP for the effective performance of the tasks described in the Generic Job Profile. Corporate recruitment/workforce planning needs, in addition to local market supply may require changes or amendments to these, as appropriate. Any queries on changes for vacancy announcement purposes should be addressed to Recruitment and Reassignment Branch, Human Resources Division.) -Education: secondary , however applicants have a university degree will be given preference. -Experience: At least four years of progressively responsible support including at least two years in the field of Geographical Information System or other related field. -Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic. -Knowledge: Training and/or experience utilising computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems. Experience with ESRI ArcMap, geo-database technology and web-based GIS. General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing human resources administration. The Special Service Agreement is a short term contract modality and has no entitlement/ benefit except of the health insurance. Any leaves during the contract duration will be deducted from the monthly salary.
