World Record! Yesterday, on the 36th anniversary of the first shipment of the Apple II personal computer, a used Apple II sold on ebay for a world record price of $23,099. The seller had been in the computer training business for many years, and had long ago purchased it from the original owner. It sounds like he did not realize what he had until he took it in for service to Apple and they informed him that it was one of the first 100 ever built, serial number 0047. Apple told him that number 53 had come in for service and had been damaged by Apple. The first 100 had unusual features, including no ventilation venting and a simple on-off toggle switch. This is a spectacular collectible and may be the oldest Apple II in existence. Rarely does an opportunity like this come along, and I predict this will prove to be a very savvy investment to the lucky winning bidder.
