World Regional Geography students at Jackson State University are studying the Holy Land the week of November 3- 9. They are learning about Jews, Christians, Muslims, Bahais and several other religious adherents having sacred places in the Middle East. Incidentally Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is the Middle East in Africa or Asia? If there is a Middle East and a Far East, is there still a Near East? What environmental and cultural characteristics render this area similar? Is religion the paradigm of the Middle East? This is an exciting curriculum and JSU students are becoming more global because of classes in geography. Geography is more than naming states and capitals. It is the Mother of all Sciences and includes geology, geometry, sociology, astronomy, meteorology, climatology, history, archeology, economics, linguistics, political science, international law, and yes, religion! I am blessed beyond my ability to express myself to teach such courses! It is intoxicatingly exhilarating! I am crunked! We meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:00 a.m. in Liberal Arts Bldg #204. Visitors are welcome. Just sit down, be quiet and observe unless invited to make input.
