World legend community leader, surfer and MMA fighter Barca is literally running for Kauaʻi Mayor! He will run and paddle the whole island honoring sacred sites and visiting neighborhoods to demonstrate his commitment to the ʻāina and the people of Kauaʻi! He is a director of Ohana O Kauaʻi who helped lead the charge to pass historic legislation in GMO Ground Zero. Dustin Barca is running against incumbent Bernard Carvalho who vetoed Bill 2491 which provides pesticide disclosure, spraying buffer zones around schools and hospitals and homes, and health and environmental impact studies. Luckily, the Council stood up for the people of Kauaʻi who flooded the County building by the thousands, and overturned the veto and it is now Ordinance 960! Now Syngenta, Dow, DuPont and BASF are suing Kauaʻi County Carvalho so they can keep spraying next to the schools! Upon filing to run, Carvalho was surrounded by cheering chemical company executives and employees who were against the public safety bill all while spraying almost daily and exposing us to thousands of open air genetic experiments. We are thrilled that Barca is challenging Carvalho, and we would like to challenge Carvalho to also run and paddle himself around the island! That would be a sight!
