‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ Matthew 4:8-11 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. Ultimately, Satan wants us to worship him, instead of God. Too often, he succeeds in this, and we are tricked into worshiping idols to the extent that we endanger our ability to delight in the Lord God. We choose entertainment, hobbies, and so many other things and try to use them in place of our Lord. We worship them and look to them to fulfill us. Sadly, we do this with other people as well; both in friendships and marriages. No one can replace God in your life, and its a fools errand to worship anything else in His place.
