Worst commute in ever, thank you Metro. Wait 7 mins. for a packed Red Line train in rush hour. Go one stop, hold for 10 mins with DOORS OPEN while we are warned that the 4 previous trains malfunctioned and offloaded at Union Station so its going to be crowded. Then just outside Union Station, OUR train says its malfunctioning and we are also going to be offloaded. The platform is so crowded at this point - its about 8:00 - that its getting dangerous, and there are no trains to arrive for at least another 7 minutes. The Metro three employees kibbitzing at the station managers kiosk know nothing about any of it, have no guidance to share, and are making no efforts to assist or resolve the situation, only saying, well, if a train is offloaded there must be a mechanical malfunction (DUH!). I decide to walk. I am carrying 15# of books and not dressed for this, the wind keeps blowing my snood off, my coat open and my long skirt up. Then the Secret Service decides to block off Penn and make everyone walk to Farragut to go around. Almost three miles of total hell. The entire time I was walking right into the wind gusts and barely kept upright for part of it.
