Worst god-awful thing that can happen to a writer (you know, other than the obvious like illness and family problems or any other REAL problem): I started NaNoWriMo on Friday on a whim, got my Friday words done, and then really sailed through Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, though, when I went to open the manuscript, it was gone. Totally and completely gone. It was like the file never existed. MicroSoft Word didnt have it listed as a document I worked on. My computer didnt show that Id saved a file on Saturday or Sunday (I save all the time). A deep search of deleted files found nothing. It was all gone. What I had was the first 1,700 words that Id written on Friday and e-mailed to myself. 4,000 words gone! I spent all Monday trying to find them. Now, Im rewriting the missing stuff. I have 23 days to make up for the missing words. That shouldnt be that hard. Still, its discouraging to lose the work. In the meantime, Ive set up Dropbox on my computers so that this wont happpen again. https://dropbox/
