Would an academic press publish a highly introspective examination of a personal history of involvement with Native mysticism? Pretty dicey prospect, but the U of N Press took on THE RELUCTANT PILGRIM, to be released this winter. So, let’s REALLY test the boundaries of academic tolerance: how about a follow-up volume of a collection of slightly ribald Plains folktales, a genre I call civil ribaldry. Well, I just got word that yes, the UNP will indeed publish WHY I’M AN OLD ONLY CHILD AND OTHER SLIGHTLY NAUGHTY PLAINS FOLKTAKES in 2016, the fiftieth anniversary of my first book with the Press. I love these stories, so typical of my father’s humor and that of this village I have come to call home. I am grateful to the Press yet once again for going out on a limb for my wacky scribblings, and I hope those of you who have followed my long, tortured literary path will find these folktales as delightful as I have.
