Would any local friends be able to glean to support local hunger relief agencies? Sandi Newman let me know that she has a gleaning project next week, Tuesday and/or Wednesday (weather permitting) 11/18 and 11/19, at a farm in Claxton, Ga. She needs volunteers. Sandi works with Society of St. Andrew, a national non-profit with an office in Tifton (thats her). They work with farmers large and small to rescue produce that is excess or not marketable for any reason. They either glean or harvest it, or collect already harvested but excess or refused at the point of delivery, and distribute free of charge to agencies that feed the hungry, or to individuals in low-income housing or communities in need.
