Would like to make a few comments to you about the Report on - TopicsExpress

Would like to make a few comments to you about the Report on Torture that was released yester by the Senate Intelligence Committee, and more importantly Senator Diane Feinstein of California. Firstly let me say this. I read some of the report on C-Span this morning, and most of it is disturbing to say the least. The blame lies squarely on certain member of the CIA and more importantly their Directors at the time. George Tenant, Porter Goss, and General Michael Hayden, all served as Directors of CIA during the Bush administration. The reports finds gross negligence by these men, specifically Tenant and Goss, to adequate and truthfully report to the President the results of these methods. IE they lied to President Bush, many times inflating numbers and figures, of the actual information that was obtained during these sessions. Yes President Bush authorized waterboarding, he did not authorize the rectal feedings and rectal hydration that was forced on these detainees. The facts clearly support Senator Feinsteins assertion that the interrogations were often given false information, such as the information given that led President Bush to believe that there were WMDs in Iraq. Again, President Bush authorized the CIA to use these techniques. But this is NOT the first time that the CIA has lied to the President. During the Bay Of Pigs in 1961, CIA Director John McCone gave President Kennedy inaccurate and false information about Fidel Castro and the rebel uprising in Cuba. The mission failed and President Kennedy vowed to break the CIA into a thousand pieces. President Kennedy fell on his sword and shouldered the blame, but he NEVER trusted the CIA again. The bottom line here is that serious thought and more oversight by Congress is the only answer to solve this recurring problem in the intelligence community. Also and both Senator Feinstein and Senator McCain were correct when they said that these enhanced interrogation techniques did not and cannot work in a civilized society. We are better than this, and we must stop engaging in this. With that being said and I will return to what I said to a very dear friend of mine yesterday, if one thinks that because we stop using these techniques, that other countries who use torture to extract information will follow our lead, well that kind of thinking is naïve and very shortsighted. And also to the argument that we should stay out of other countries affairs and basically cast a blind eye, reduce our military, reallocate the resources elsewhere, I will tell you this. it is wishful thinking to believe that while casting a blind eye, reducing our military and staying out of other peoples business is noble, it will NOT reduce other countries thirst to attack this country. The Berkley Set and peace activist truly believe this way of thinking. But I will leave you with this thought. When someone attacks us again, and they will, what will we do then? Turning the other cheek is not an option. And there is nothing HUMANE about watching innocent civilian deaths on our own soil. And there is nothing HUMANE about war. So while those who criticize country as a bunch of war mongering buffoons, go take a look at the other countries who are actually perpetrating the whole war aspect. Again you fail to look at THOSE countries, just take aim at ours and to me that cuts both ways. We are NOT ALWAYS to blame. That is all. God Bless!!!
