Would solve so many problems. We could save so much money. Just give everyone the same amount, no clawback, tax what you earn on top, eliminate all non-medical non-child-welfare financial assistance programs, eliminate artist grants (the state should not be sticking its nose into aesthetic matters in the first place: guaranteed income = artistic freedom and no more meddling in the arts by politicians), simplify the tax system (flat tax, I say), close all tax loopholes (you make $100 on top of your GAI, pay $15 tax, make $100000, pay $15000--no exceptions or deductions), and reduce the CRA to a skeleton crew. Thats just all the public spending that could be eliminated if we just cut everyone the same cheque. Then there are the health benefits and reductions in crime and increased entrepreneurship. My plan might not be their plan, but its good to see some form of guaranteed income plan making news. Of course, it is entirely too logical to be adopted.
